Carrie’s Place provides a range of culturally appropriate programs for people experiencing domestic and family violence, and/or homelessness.
We employ highly qualified workers, with specialist skills, who provide case management and court advocacy, to assist people to move forward with their lives with independence, safety, and security.
We have been providing services in the Maitland and Hunter area since 1979, and are truly a community-owned organisation.
Carrie's Place is a safe place for you and your children. And we believe that everyone has the right to feel safe all the time.

Carrie’s Place is proud to lead a groundbreaking collaboration between a local GP practice, four domestic violence organisations, and the Primary Health Network to deliver GP clinics in women and children’s refuges across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Lower Hunter.
This partnership brings together health and specialist domestic violence services to remove barriers and provide care where it’s needed most. A vital part of this program is our Integration Coordinator, who acts as the key link between refuge staff and the GP practice—ensuring appointments run smoothly and clients feel supported from the moment they arrive.
Many women escaping domestic violence haven’t seen a GP or any health professional for their own care in a long time. They may have injuries or chronic conditions caused or worsened by their experience of violence. To be able to sit with a doctor, talk through health and wellbeing concerns for themselves and their children, and have a health plan actioned is life-changing—and potentially lifesaving.
Last week, the first clinic was held at a NOVA for Women and Children refuge, and we’ve already seen the impact. One of our first clients shared:
"I was nervous because I haven't seen a doctor in a long time, but you made me feel really comfortable as soon as I got here. We [the doctor] talked about all the things I was worried about, and I am going to get help."
We’re excited to roll this program out across Carrie's Place, NOVA for Women and Children, Jenny's Place, and Warlga Ngurra.
